American Ideals vs. American Reality
How did we get here? Think, and be honest. You know. I know. We know.
We have allowed a gap between our American ideals and our American reality to fester for far too long. Systemic economic inequity is not a new issue. Systemic racism is not a new issue. Sustained poverty is not a new issue. Lack of political leadership is not a new issue. Lack of social trust is not a new issue.
I will close the gap between our American ideals and our American reality. But, I need a team to accomplish that goal.
I called family. I called friends. We started that team. We decided to empower ourselves by embarking on an intense journey of learning by doing. We don’t plan on running one campaign. No. We are learning the skills to run a congressional campaign so we can each support dozens of campaigns over the course of our lives. No one election will change our current reality, but a movement will. That’s where you fit in.
Students are leading marches and demanding the future they deserve. Seeing this, my anger about our old system fell behind my hope for our new system. That’s when my pessimism became optimism.
Now is our moment of great hope. Now is the opportunity to seize the future we all deserve. You know this is true. You feel the energy too.
Run for Office
Together, we can create a movement that results in thousands of people running for thousands of offices all across the country. Together, we will close the gap between the highest aspirations of the American Dream and the lows of our modern complacency. How do we accomplish that? We share our experience. We push each other to greatness.
We must empower more people to run for Congress, Senate, and every other seat imaginable. Competition makes us stronger. When thousands of us are running for office and we have democratized candidacy, this new wave will close the gap between our ideals and our reality.
This campaign is not a “me” thing. This campaign is a realization that we are in the midst of a once-in-a-century turning point in American culture and politics. This campaign is the embodiment of the reality that right now, in this moment, we have the power to come together and rebuild the system.
Together, my team is building a coalition to win a single seat in the United States House of Representatives. In the process, we are pushing all of you to bring your own team together and run for whatever office you care about.
When your team and my team are working independently but focused on the shared goal of turning our American Dream into the American Reality, we become the new wave.
